Pixel Art – Sneak Preview

I just finished this, but I’ll need some daylight to take some better quality pictures.  Can you guess what this is?  Image

Help us get a product built!‏

As many of you already know, I have been working hard over the past year to take the concepts I have used for my own living room and produce a “kit” that you could use in your own home.  Unfortunately, after working with some local manufacturers, I concluded that price of a manufactured kit using my existing design with a small production quantity  would be more than most people would be willing or able to pay.

Fortunately, I came across a new type of design/manufacturing company (Quirky.com) that “crowdsources” design and most importantly, manufactures products that generate a sufficient interest.  It’s sort of like Kickstarter.com with the difference being Quirky.com actually participates in the design and manufacturing.

What does this mean to you?  If you would like to see the 8 bit living “kit” become a reality, this is a golden opportunity to get this built in a cost-effective way.   In addition, Quirky.com users can influence the design and give feedback along the way. If the product comes to market, those who participate in the the design, marketing, etc, can also participate in any revenue generated.  It sounds crazy, but you can read more about it on the website.

You can view my submission on Quirky.com using this link. So far the response has been great, but I want to do everything I can to ensure the designers understand that there is demand for a product like this.  Please check it out and Vote for it if you would like to see this project come to fruition.  Please also share with any friends who may also be interested.

8 Bit Art – Super Mushroom

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Another mushroom from Super Mario Brothers.  Unlike “Goomba“,  this mushroom was helpful.  Upon eating it, Mario would double in size and strength.

I found the sprite at “The Shy Guy Kingdom

Another gray-scale mosaic.  It turns out you can really do a lot with 4 colors.  More to come…

8 Bit Art – Goomba

“Goomba”, the walking mushroom from Super Mario Brothers.  If there are any enemies that could be described as “Grunt,” Goomba is it.   Never getting any respect, I thought Goomba deserved a moment in the sun.

Goomba (Making of)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’m starting a new series of grayscale mosaics.  I have some specific reasons for this – which I’ll get into at a later time.  My first attempt is Goomba – the walking mushroom in Super Mario Brothers.   I took a bunch of pictures while creating this so I decided to dedicate a section to “the making of.”

8 Bit Art – Cheep Cheep

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The cold weather is now upon us here in Baltimore, so I decided it was time for a new mosaic to remind me of warmer times.   “Cheep Cheep” is that bugger fish in the Super Mario Bothers water stages.  Up for a swim? Be careful, I got dangerously close to getting bit in one these photos.
